Recreational Pilot Permit (RPP), Private Pilot Licence (PPL) & Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) Ground School
The Recreational Pilot Permit (RPP) is ideal for one looking to add a hobby as it allows the pilot to fly (weather permitting – i.e. VFR conditions) with up to one passenger within Canadian airspace. In addition to the privileges of the RPP, the licensed Private Pilot is able to endorse the licence with ratings (Night, Multi-engine, IFR, etc.) and also carry a few more passengers. Canadian aviation industry regulator, Transport Canada (TC), requires RPP – Aeroplane and/or Private Pilot Licence (PPL) – Aeroplane candidates to indicate that they meet specific ground school knowledge standards and hourly minimums. Using general aviation as a focal point, SkyMap’s private pilot ground school course not only meets TC’s RPP and PPL minimum requirements, but also prepares students to successfully complete the applicable mandatory written examinations (RPPAE: Recreational – Aeroplane or PPAER: Private Pilot Aeroplane).

Instrument (IFR) Rating Ground School
Transport Canada (TC), mandates Instrument Rating candidates (those wishing to fly in IFR conditions) meet specific knowledge standards and hourly minimums. Without requiring a recommendation letter (unlike the PPL – PPAER) for the Instrument Rating written examination (INRAT), many students opt for independent self-study prior to attempting the INRAT examination. For some, opting for the independent self-study route, the disappointing discovery that they should have taken a preparation course prior to the exam is humbling if not also a rude awakening. Whether pursuing a Group 1 (multi-engine) or Group 3 (single-engine) Instrument Rating, successful completion of SkyMap’s IFR ground school course will provide the candidate the knowledge, competency and resulting confidence required to successfully complete the industry’s mandatory written examination (INRAT).
